Have you been to Malaysia by any chance? Have you tried any authentic Malay dishes?
Hmmmmmmm if you ask me: first, I never been to Malaysia yet but we do have a plan to go there soon! Second, poor me as I haven’t tried any authentic Malaysian cuisine either (ahahaha!). Well, no need for us to use our passport to
travel across countries to savour some of the tastiest and finest street food of
Malaysia because Resorts World Sentosa is bringing the Malay flavor under one roof here in
Singapore. This is the least we can do so far since we don’t know yet when will we be able to visit
Malaysia (ahahaha!).
Cute mini direction pole written in Malay and Arabic language.
Spending a day in
Sentosa
is way too exhausting even it’s just a small island. However,
everything seems so easy with the help of our BFF slash tour guide
Lemwuel who help us all throughout our 7-day vacation. We maybe weary
and stress because of lots of walking
but it was a blast!
The three of us were busy checking every hawkers outlet behind the two Security Officers of RWS.
After visiting
Siloso and Palawan Beach that lies in the southern coast of
Sentosa, Lemwuel called our friend Llowel who is working in RWS.
We just want to know where is the best place to have lunch within the
area because it’s almost 2:oopm already. Most of the restaurants here
requires ample amount of
money as the price is quite expensive that’s why we want to know if
there is a budget friendly for traveler like us (ahahaha!).
Penang Ah Long Lor Bak, try their crispy prawn crackers and fried yam in batter.
Llowel suggested that there is less costly restaurant to try on: the
Malaysian Food Street. Since we were still in the islet having fun in the observation deck which is considered as the ‘Southernmost Point of Continental Asia’ we travelled back via free tram to
Beach Station then made a stop to Waterfront.
Resorts World Sentosa’s Malaysian Food Street is a food court concept that’s designed to look and feel
like you are dining on the streets of Malaysia sans the
cab. The impression is complete with road instructions written in Malay
and Arabic languages as well as road signs that tell you where the
stalls are located. Balong, Llowel and Lemwuel
already experience to be in Malaysia except myself.
Penang Cuttlefish Kang Kong, they serves marinated cuttle fish and kang kong with sweet sauce with sesame seeds and crushed peanuts (PERFECT!)
The
façade is brightened with large signage of the name itself with a huge
see through door panel. If you’re new in the area it didn’t give you the
hint that there are lots of stall within as
it looks like a fine dining restaurant from the outside.
The infamous Heun Kee Claypot Chicken Rice outlet.
The food street is easy to find as it is located at the ‘The Bull Ring’ just beside the
Universal Studios. It opens daily but they have different
timing: on Monday to Thursday from 11:ooam - 10:oopm, Friday to Saturday
from 9:ooam – 12:oomn and during Sunday from 9:ooam – 10:oopm.
My fave store ever because of Hokkien Prawn Mee!!!!
One
thing I like about this place is the high ceiling. They transformed the
place look like the nightly road side stalls even in the middle of the
day. There were already lots of people queuing
and dining when we get in but there are few more tables available.
Offers popular snacks from Malaysia along with different array of dimsum. Try their freshly brewed white coffee!!! It's awesome after meal!
There
are a total of 17 food stalls selling a myriad of hawker food in here.
As per brochure, 9 best famous hawker names out of 17 were handpicks by
Resort World Sentosa (RWS) from Kuala Lumpur and Penang
to have that authentic flavor for diners to enjoy. The foodcourt is
spacious and surrounded with facades of old colorful shophouses lining
in the ‘street’. We
enjoyed it so much because it’s like they’re building small houses (mostly miniature 2 storey houses) inside the structure and feels like you’re passing through one of the street in Geylang (ahahaha!).
It's like the mini street of Malaysia in the center of RWS.
The foodcourt seems somewhat like the food trail in
Singapore Flyer, they are not using those disposable foam
and plastic spoon and fork instead provided reusable type of cutlery
which is for me way much better as it is earth-friendly.
When the unit beeps, that means our order is ready!
The
concept of this food court is self service. What they usually do, they
give you a number and once it beep, that means you’re called and asked
to placed your orders. It’s systematic, even there are large numbers of
people queuing, the service is quite fast that take less than 10
minutes depending on what you order of course.
We ordered two clay pot chicken rice, one with salted fish and the other one is regular.
We ordered
Huen Kee Claypot Chicken Rice with salted fish. There is a
signage that says we need to wait for 45 minutes for them to prepare
and serve but in less than 10 we already have our order (that’s awesome!).
It was off peak when we went there
that’s why they serve it fast. The price each pot is SGD 8 around PHP
264.oo or USD 6. They’re cooking the food uniquely as they used a
burning charcoal at the bottom and at the top of the lid. The purpose
maybe is to cook the food on both sides coz I watched
my grandmother cooking bibingka like that (ahahaha!).
Hun Kee Claypot Chicken Rice, it's like the filipino version of adobo without the rice.
When I open the lid, the smell of marinated chicken makes me drool even more (ahahaha!).
It smells so good and the plating is pretty appetizing
too. It’s around two cups of cooked rice topped with marinated chicken.
First, you have to mix it before eating so that the sauce mixed
thoroughly with the rice. I have to say this; the taste is like the
chicken adobo version of my Mom, promise! I don’t know if
they have other version but if you add a tablespoon of soy sauce and
vinegar, voila you have Filipino version of chicken rice in front of
you.
Our friend Llowel mixing the chicken rice.
We also ordered
Ah Mei Hokkien Prawn Mee, my favorite ever! It cost us SGD
6 around PHP 200 or USD 4.oo per bowl. Actually, it’s not me who
ordered this but when BFF Lemwuel offered a spoonful, right away we
ordered another bowl (ahahaha!). Am not really
a fun of chili but you need to put a pinch of it as it adds that
‘Malay’ flavor as they are known for it. The broth is so rich that even
after am done eating the whole noodles I want to lick the bowl (ahahaha!).
Penang Ah Mei Hokkien Prawn Mee, i love the thick broth made of fried fresh prawn shells and homemade chili mix.
It
gets cold rather quickly because of the strong air-conditioned within,
so better eat it quickly. I advised, if you want to order more then
comeback to the stall than to keep your meal on the side.
Since Balong has allergies to seafoods, i ordered wonton soup with slices of grilled pork strips.
As usual, Balong is not really into sea foods as he has allergies to it that’s why we ordered wonton soup with pork strips.
We ordered 4 large softdrinks which quite hard for me to finished it.
The
food court mainly offers the widest variety to choose from. If you ask
me would I return in here to have lunch or dinner, my answer would
definitely YES! For a budget friendly hawker shops that offers quite
good quick meal which is actually not bad then it’s a must try. This is
the only cheapest food street that you can find within RWS.
That's me and Balong, haggardness to the highest level! (ahahaha!) We just came from Palawan Beach.
We
haven’t been to Malaysia yet but experiencing their cuisine to another
foreign land is a wonderful experience. Of course nothing beats the
real deal in Malaysia but this is the closest we can get so far. Just wait for us
Kuala Lumpur we will visit you soon dear (wink wink hehehe!)
This is just the receipt of the two Chicken Rice we bought.
That's it for now guys....
Got to go for now. Have a great day/night everyone.
Cheeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiosssssssssss!!!
Enan signing off
SMILE
