Makansutra ~ street food dining experience in a spectacular setting

8 Raffles Avenue

The signage of 'Makansutra Gluttons Bay' situated in Esplanade Promenade.
Since BFF Lemwuel is based in Singapore, he served as our tour guide wherever we go. Right after our first meeting in Singapore Zoo, he suggested to have dinner at ‘Makansutra’ in Marina Bayfront. I knew where it is located as I’ve seen it in one leaflets brought by Balong in the hotel.  It says that ‘Makansutra is a MUST place to try’ for foodies. A coincidence that BFF suggested such place thus our excitement heats up (hehehe!)
The pristinely clean MRT of Singapore.
But before going to Makansutra, queuing in the bus stop from Singapore Zoo  to Ang Mo Kio MRT Station was one of our worries. It was almost 6 PM when we left the park and there were already many passengers waiting just outside of the park. If I am not mistaken more than 150 passengers we’re on queue and I guess one bus can only accommodate less than a hundred people in standing positions. We supposed to go directly to Night Safari situated just besides the zoo but we decided to come back after 2 days then. I have to admit, me and Balong were already exhausted right after our 4-hour visit. It was a very hectic/crazy schedule but an impeccable experienced not to forget.

One of the wall design in City Hall MRT Station. The intricate abstract design is so beautiful!
If ever we will visit this place again, we will spend 1 whole day in here from 8:30 AM until 6:30 PM since 4 hours is not enough really. One whole day will give you ample time to appreciate the beauty of its feature without the rush. Shamed on us because we weren’t able to see the ‘Polar Bear’ enclosure and the 'Red Panda' which is considered as one of the best they have in here. We even missed the ferry boat ride in Upper Seletar Reservoir (haissssst!). Well, as what other would say, better do it next time then (hehehe!).
This is one of the stall in Makansutra. I was supposed to take picture of the whole area but it was too crowded that night.
If you love animals then visit this place. Point is, even we were worn out but still we enjoyed every minute of it. We navigate the place by ourselves and we didn’t even bother to try the tram either as we wanted to roam 'on foot' to have a full eye’s view of the vicinity.

I don't know what they call it but  taste like a Filipino version of  'Bistek Tagalog' the difference is it's too sweet.
We waited for almost 15 minutes before we able to catch the bus. Adding agony to our exhaustion was no available seats for the three of us; thus we stand all along. 6PM is peak hour in Singapore; therefore, expect traffic jam along the way. When we reached the MRT station our agony continues as it is full packed as well. Imagine more than 2 hours of standing!!! (come on!)
Braided Fried Prawn. I love the fried cereals. :)

We arrived in the hotel at last, it was an excruciating journey yet that happen sometimes you know. Traffic is a norm; thus, relax, chill out (ahahaha!). We freshen up and took a a power nap before heading to Makansutra around 10 PM.

Fried Rice complete with crab meat and vegetables.
At exactly 10 we woke up and traveled by MRT from Kallang Station to City Hall and found our way to Esplanade. From there, we took merely 5 minutes 'on foot' before we arrived at the ‘Makansutra Gluttons Bay’. This is the best place for dinner as per suggestions of ‘BFF’. Well, we are new here; thus, his advises matters (ahahaha!).  Makansutra is located in the premises of Esplanade by the balmy alfresco Marina Bay area. ‘Makan’ is derived from a Malay word which means ‘eating'. There are so many stalls in here selling typical Singapore dishes. Bring your food buddies, families, or friends in here, pamper them to experience the unique and exclusive street food dining experience in a spectacular setting of the  magnificent skyline view.
I love the bean sprout. :)
Prices here ranges from SGD 3 to 15 depends on what you order of course. Comparing to other ‘hawker center’, prices here is a bit expensive because of its location. There are so many ‘hawker stalls’ to choose from actually and you will truly love it as the smells just in the entrance is so enticing. If you have a date afterwards, this is a 'no no' place as you will be engulfed with smoke pretty sure (ahahaha!).

Fried Noodles with dimsum.
This is our first dinner together with BFF, our friend Llowel joined us too; however, he arrived around 11~ish as he still have a night shift in Resort World in Sentosa. The dinner was a memorable experienced as we witness the skyline of Singapore’s Marina Bay. Please note that this is not solely for Singapore cuisines, I’ve seen stalls for Filipinos, Thais, Chinese, Indians cuisines which is available in here too. Ask your palate what you prefer and pretty sure they have it in here. If you are an adventurous foodies why not try to indulged yourself with the delectable stingrays (skate) barbeque. Wanna try? (ahahaha!)

Chopsuey, Singapore style. :)
It’s the only food centre nearest to the Esplanade. It was too crowded when we get in and we find ourselves circling and waiting before we found a vacant table. Lots of nationalities too and seems enjoying their time.  It’s an open-air concept where in you will hear noise, smells of food, spectacular scenery bundled into one. It’s a laid-back no frills character to foodies of all ages and races. We ordered 4 sets of food and we enjoyed it a lot.

This is what it looks like, an open concept 'food street' in a spectacular view of Marina Bay. BFF Lemuwel is on the left while Llowel is on the right.
If ever, you're caught in the middle here and you have no patience to wait for vacant table then order your dessert and take it down to the river and have a 'rendezvous' with nature, ayt? (hehehe!)

The stunning Marina Bay Sands from our table.
The feasting hours begin at 5PM and last until 2AM. Remember: Eat well, and live well. There is no need for you go somewhere else, try here, it’s one of the best place to enjoy your meal that can cost only a couple bucks including the magnifiscent beauty of Singapore's Marina Bay.

The beauty of Marina Bay at night after our dinner in Makansutra.
That's it for now, hope you enjoyed our trip to Makansutra. If you have spare time, come in here and i assure you, you'll enjoy the scenery plus the food.

Let's get spiritual on our next post. Sri Sivan is up next.

Enan signing off.
